Yesterday, I blogged about my new(er) car and in the labels, I listed radical and Christianity. Now, you may wonder "How on earth is a NEW car related to Radical Christianity!?!?!?" Here is how:
Most people in America tend to buy new or nearly new cars. The average price of a new car is $28,400. The average price of a used car is $18,000-$23,000. This doesn't take into account the higher insurance costs for cars at these price levels. By choosing to purchase a less expensive, older, reliable vehicle, I can use the remaining money to do something radical for God (like adopt a 9 yr old boy from China).
I figure it this way. If I spend $7000 and drive my car for 7 years, it only cost me $1000 per year to own that car. If I spend $23,000 or $28,000, then I have to drive that vehicle for 23-28 YEARS to get to that same level of cost per year. Not likely to happen. So, that is how a $7000, 10 yr old vehicle is a radical decision.
On another radical note...
Today is my birthday! I am going to celebrate by offering one of my readers (all 8 of you :-) ) a gift! One thing that has really changed my life this past year is listening to Dr. David Platt's sermon series on Radical Christianity. I have blogged about this on a number of occasions. I discovered a few weeks ago that he has put the sermons into book form and I would like to offer it to one of my readers as a gift.
In order to qualify for the drawing to win the book, you have to do the following:
1) Be one of my followers (I know, I'm "buying" followers, but I'd like to know who is out there!)
2) Add a Link below to a specific blog post about something that has changed your life in the past year.
The link will stay active until 7/26 and I'll pick the winner via a random drawing on 7/27.
