Reality Check

So, I realized yesterday while talking to CP that trying to go get DJ before the end of the year will be challenging.  I only have 7.5 days of vacation between now and the end of the year - and I'm going to burn 2 or 3 later this month to go take care of some of CP's mom's estate issues.  Next year, I will have 15 days of vacation.  I'm planning on taking at least four weeks off.  We can handle the loss of one week's income, but not 3 weeks' of income.  This would be on top of potentially high(er) travel costs due to the season.

So, maybe the ideal situation would be to get TA in Dec and then travel the first of the year.  This could be very beneficial on a lot of fronts.  Though we would miss finalizing the adoption before the end of the year (and delay our tax credit to 2012 - yes, financial considerations still apply), it may be best for all involved.  We could enjoy Christmas with the kids and hopefully, we'll have all of CP's mom's estate settled by then.

One crazy scenario would be for us to travel the last week of 2010, finalizing the adoption on the 28th.  I could use my vacation from this year and next year and not miss any pay at all.  But this would require us to leave home on either Christmas Eve or Christmas Day.  Not a fun option either.

So, despite my Bucket idea of travelling before the end of the year, God knows best and will work it all out for us.

We're hoping to get our adoption finalized by the end of the year to get the tax credit too. It would be such a huge help for financial needs once we come back. We are pretty sure we'll be in UA for Thanksgiving and hoping to be back before Christmas or at least have it finalized by then. I would SO go for the crazy option! Its one holiday season you won't forget :)
