Radical

I read David Platt's book Radical about a month ago.  I am now re-reading it.   On page 3 he says,

"But if Jesus is who he said he is, and if his promises are as rewarding as the Bible claims they are, then we may discover that satisfaction in our lives and success in the church are not found in what our culture deems most important but in radical abandonment to Jesus."

So what is radical abandonment to Jesus?  Am I not already radical enough in today's society just by being a Christian and attending church regularly?

David also says, "Jesus actually spurned the things that our church culture says are most important. ... So what was I to do.  Was I going to believe Jesus?  Was I going to obey Jesus?"

I feel that in general, the church today is focused too much on believing in Jesus and not enough on obeying Jesus.  This affects my own life as well as I am not challenged to be obedient as I should be.  I don't screw up too often on the "don'ts" of Christianity, but I'm not all that good at obeying the "do's".  As I go through this book again, I hope to post about some of my thoughts, fears, changes, etc that occur as I read the book.

Won't you join me?
