Another Great Day

We spent the morning with our friends from River of Grace Foster Home and with the Hammeloths.  It was great to meet Steve and Lynnea and their family.  They all got to meet GW.  We were able to buy some special books and wall hangings and then we had lunch on the sidewalk in front of a small restaurant.  The food was delicious.  We have discovered, though, that GW doesn't like spicy food.  That's good, because we aren't a spicy food family.

We got back to our room and had about 30 min to relax before we had to leave for the airport.  GW took a nap and when CP woke him up, he reached out and put his arm around him!  Then later today, he called him Baba!!!

We left Kunming (a little sad as it was the last time GW will see it for a long time) and flew to Nanjing.  GW did great on the flight.  You would have thought he was a pro at flying.  He went on the plane and down the aisle and sat in his seat - no problem.  Jonathan showed him to take off his backpack and put it under his seat and he was all set.  He loves to chew gum, so takeoff was no problem.  It was a bit of a bumpy takeoff and start to the flight.  I showed GW the "Clean Bag" just in case he needed it - he didn't.  He loved looking out the window until we were so high there wasn't much to see.  Then as we came into Nanjing, it was dark and he really enjoyed seeing all the lights of the city.  When we arrived at the airport, he got his first ride on a moving sidewalk and his first ride on an escalator.  (Who says you miss all of the "firsts" with an older child adoption?)

When we got to the hotel room, there was a keyboard sitting in front of the TV.  GW apparently has a sense of humor as he was typing away on it and it wasn't working.  So he picked it up and pretended to bang it on the TV.  CP nearly jumped out of his skin - then saw that GW was laughing at him!  I guess he has picked up on our comedic ways :-)

I am continually amazed at this young man.  In many ways, it seems as though he wasn't in a CWI for all of this time.  He has fit so seemlessly into our family.  Communication is still stilted at times, but it is improving.  He is starting to use a few more English words with us.  My Chinese is very limited, but the translator is wonderful.

We have a free day tomorrow and then we meet TJ at 10:30 on Valentines Day!!! We can't wait....

It's late here, so I'll upload more pictures to the shutterfly site tomorrow...

So glad he is fitting in so well and that communication isn't too too hard! Can't wait to see pictures on Monday!

I'm Hannah S's mom that you met at River of Grace! You were a direct answer for her, as she had been prying for your 14 year old son as his "age out" day approached!
So Thankful for your son's new family!
