While we were walking around Green Lake park today, I had started walking next to GW while JA walked next to CP. We walked by a group of three ladies and they looked oddly at GW. They said something that I (of course) didn't understand. I noticed that GW distanced himself from me shortly after that, so I asked JA to switch places with me. GW was more comfortable with that. We stopped for a few minutes to watch some people dancing and he stood farther away from me than usual. I don't know what the lady said, but it obviously had an effect on GW.
A little while later, though, he was back to walking near me and standing close. He is very resilient. Just now, I had JA go take his shower. When he was done, I asked GW to take his. He nodded his head and willingly went to the bathroom and took his shower. When we were fixing noodles in our room for dinner, he asked me to help him open one of the sauce packets because he was having a hard time with it. I also poured the boiling water for him.
We also had a great time today throwing the ball in the hotel room. We played "Monkey in the Middle" with JA in the middle. He was laughing and smiling the whole time. Finally, JA came over and backed right up in front of me for a while. A little bit later, I went and got in the middle and then backed right up to GW. I was on the floor and he was on the bed, but I had my back up against his legs. He has willingly accepted almost all touch so far. We haven't tried a hug or a kiss yet, but lots of pats on the back, high-5s, and standing close. I offered him a back rub after I got done with giving JA one, but he politely refused. That was OK with me. It will come in time.
A couple other side notes: he drags his feet when he walks and he loves to chew gum. He is also very neat and cleans up after himself. So far, he has been an absolute joy to parent.

Amazing updates Donna!!! Thanking the Father for these days!!! One thing J really likes is for me to blow-dry his hair LOL! Might try it if GW is willing.
Sounds like things are going well and the bit of rejection is good in the long run. I would bet the things said hurt his feelings. That is what happened with J, and also he told us later some people said "not nice things about you" (meaning DH and I) and that "hurt him". :( I think the culture is different in that to them, this is not rude. Being matter-of-fact is just how they are and they don't understand what is happening either. GM, like our J, is a handsome young man with no apparent physical needs so they probably are confused why a *white* family would have him. Expect more of this as you continue on to your SECOND Chinese son. Big hugs and prayers!
He is such a handsome boy!! I have been praying for your family. I'm so happy he's finally with you.
