More about our Trip - Meeting GW

The day we met GW was very awkward.  We drove up to the building and as we walked up, the door to the room we were going to was open.  I looked in and there he sat on the couch!  I recognized him even though his hair had been cut much shorter than the last picture we had of him.  We stood around for a moment or two waiting for someone to introduce us or something.

Finally, they told us we needed to take the photo for the Red Book.  So CP and I were ushered into another small room and seated next to each other.  Then GW was brought in and told to sit on our laps!  What a way to meet your new 14yo son!    They took a couple of photos and then just as quickly ushered us back into the original room.  We were waiting for someone to give us some more instruction or something, but the CWI personnel were talking amongst themselves.  They then told us we had to sign all of the paperwork.

Fortunately, we had brought JA with us, so he sat with GW and showed him the backpack and the things we had brought for him.  So, while we signed all of the adoption paperwork, JA and GW started drawing together on the drawing pad we brought.

We finally got to talk a little to the CWI personnel and they asked about JA - if he was older or younger.  We told them younger.  Then we finally got to show him the photo book we had brought for him.  He looked at it with the CWI personnel and they enjoyed hearing that he was going to have another Chinese brother.

A little later, GW pulled out a Nintendo Gameboy SP from his backpack and showed it to JA.  They played it for just a little bit before we were done and loaded up to head over to the notary office for his passport photo.

When we eventually got back to our hotel room, CP pulled out the drawing pad and showed GW that he likes to draw also.  Then the boys (GW and JA) crashed on their bed for a nap.  Later that evening, we skyped home and GW got to "meet" JA, SG, HJ and grandpa.  They were excited to see GW, but GW didn't care too much for skyping.  It must have been quite odd to see people on the other end that don't speak your language and try to make sense of it all.  I wonder what he thought it was?

Dear family, dear Donna,
I have been following your blog since I knew you were adopting from Kunming (from the yunnan yahoo group). We adopted a baby-boy from Kunming in October 2009. Our journeys resemble, as we also received hard medical news after a first referral that we had to turn down with much grief in our hearts. Our son had sleep issues when coming home, but is thriving now. Still we wonder how his life was like before we met. That's why it's wonderful to be able to follow Guan Wei, who will remember a lot from his life in China. I hope he will tell you a lot about it, when he's ready. I loved all your pictures from China! Hope you keep on blogging! Love from Belgium, Terry, DH Jan, DD Yuxia, DS Kewen
