Shortly after that, he started asking me to buy some roller skates/blades. I told him that we would look for some. We got lucky at the first thrift store we went to - they had a pair that fit for only $5!
So we brought them home and he started practicing.
He tentatively pushed off.
and maintained his balance
and went a little farther
and a little farther
and really got the hang of things.
It wasn't long before he was confidently skating down our sloped driveway, through the gutter (aacckk!!!) and into the street. He now turns corners like a pro and is so fast I can't keep up with him. His roller blades are one of his favorite things. It hasn't been unusual for me to come home from work and find him out on his skates.
Just another "first" for our youngest son!

That's awesome! Keep up the good work, TJ! He has a helmet, right?
If he really likes it, you might consider a local speed skating team. I'm on one (in Ohio) and we have lots of kids and they have sooo much fun! You don't need to be a pro to enjoy skating!
Thanks for sharing the skating pics :)
