R-E-S-P-E-C-T

We have been teaching some lessons about respect in our home lately.  One of our children decided to take a comic-style book to church last week on Sunday and proceeded to read during Sunday School rather than listen to the lesson.  I didn't find out about the book until after church was over or it would have never made it into the classroom in the first place.

Anyway, this child was told that this Sunday they had a choice.  They could either apologize to their teacher or they could sit in class with me and CP.

After being given ample opportunity to choose the apology, the child was escorted to our class.  This will be the choice each week from now on.  I don't like that this child won't be hearing the Word of God at a level that is understandable, but teaching respect is also important.

This same child has also had a difficult time responding when spoken to.  Simple things like when I say "Good Morning" are met with silence.  I'm not asking for a chipper, cheerful response - just an acknowledgement that the child was spoken to.  This happened MULTIPLE times on Sunday.  One time, the child decided to turn and walk away while being spoken to - not acceptable.

While it may sometimes be difficult, it is important to continually reinforce the character traits we wish to instill in our kids.

Thank you for instilling these virtues. Sometimes it seems like we are the only family still doing so.

Ditto what Annette said.

You're doing the right thing. Too bad most families in churches aren't (at least not the one we go to).
