More Details from Wednesday

Wednesday Afternoon March 22, 2006 5:00pm
It has been another very difficult day. Once again, breakfast was easy, but afterwards was difficult. Hannah Joy did not want to come back to our room. We met our guide at 9:30 for a trip to the Bai Yi park. This is a very nice park where retired people gather to play music, exercise or just walk around. Many of the older folks commented on how beautiful the girls are and gave us the thumbs up. Hannah let me carry her around the park but my back eventually gave out. We had borrowed a stroller, but Hannah wanted nothing to do with it. Fortunately, our guide, Jenny, carried her the rest of the way. While I was holding her, a few times people came up and said something to her. She just grabbed me harder around the neck. This is one of the many positive signs that she is bonding with me, but there are still many difficult parts of the day. After Jenny started carrying her, she wanted nothing to do with me anymore. I let Jenny carry her for the rest of the morning. We went to the department store where we attempted to buy shoes. This was a BIG mistake. She really likes her shoes and threw a HUGE tantrum when we took them off to try and find the right size to buy. We eventually gave up and bought thin socks. The socks I brought are thick and make her shoes very difficult to put on. Since Hannah Joy likes to be held so much, we bought a carrier pack for her. (Actually, Shari and Kevin bought it as a gift to us! I can't say thank you enough. I'm SO glad we have them here to lean on during the tough times. We then had lunch at Pizza Hut. This is the nicest Pizza Hut I've ever been in. It reminded me more of a Chili's or Applebee's than a Pizza Hut. We returned to the hotel and Hannah Joy was OK with me carrying her until we got in the elevator. She HATES elevators. I'd walk the stairs except we are on the 14th floor! We decided to give her a bath and I think it went pretty well all things considered. She stood in the tub while I poured water on her. Chris held her so she wouldn't fall. We also washed her hair. She didn't like that at all. Chris then took her out and cuddled her while she was bundled in the towels. After we dried her off, I gave her a lotion massage. She really liked this. She kept reaching out for me to put more on her arm. We got her dressed and put her in the carrier and headed out for a walk. She liked our walk, but I'm not sure she trusts the carrier yet. Also, she likes to be up high so she can be face to face with me. We had a nice walk, but had to cut it short as it started to rain. She once again screamed on the elevator and then screamed in the room. I eventually took her to the play room and just let her scream for a while. We then came back to the room. After hanging out in the room, Chris took her for a walk and she fell asleep on his shoulder. She is crashed on him right now as he sits on the couch in our room.
Once again, new pictures are in flickr on the right.
P.S. I delivered the package and the photos. They were well received. I also go updated info on the five Fu's. I just have to get it translated to know who's info is who's.. I'll try to post tomorrow...

Hang in there Donna...it sounds like she is doing the best she can. Hopefully once you get to Guangzhou she will continue to calm down and settle into your family. It's great that she is holding onto you and looking to you for comfort. I hope that each day will get better and better!

Hi there... once again I look forward to reading all you have written about your experiences and what you are going through. What you don't realise is that you are giving me an idea of some of the things that 'could' come up... look forward to reading more at some stage. I will say though that Hannah certainly sounds like a character... take care...
