God just continues to amaze me with this adoption. One of CP's concerns about bringing two home at once was trying to teach both boys English without neglecting HJ and her reading. So, we talked about enrolling the boys in our local public school at least until the end of the school year and then going from there. With only one boy coming home we hadn't even considered this.
So, I called our district ESOL coordinator to ask about what services were offered. I explained what we were doing and that we normally homeschool. She strongly encouraged me to enroll the boys (no surprise), but she also gave me a list of websites that would be helpful for them (I'll list them at the bottom). In addition, she asked if I could come meet her, because she had some things she wanted to give me. Not knowing for sure what she had in mind, I met her at lunch yesterday.
Oh my word!!! She loaded me up with workbooks for the boys. I'll list them here just in case anyone is interested and can find them online.
The Oxford Picture Dictionary - this is all in English, but has prompts to help the teacher talk to the boys about the various things in the pictures - i.e. not just words, but language and context.
Delta ESL Phonics 1-5 - These are workbooks and audio CDs.
Camp Can Do Activity Book 1-4 - a wide range of activites that build on one another
My New Words: A Picture Wordbook for Newcomers - this is published by Macmillan/McGraw-HIll and the "series" is Treasure Chest for English Language Learners - this contains photographs of actual objects (dog, Winter-snow-covered tree, colors, ocean, house, etc) with the word below it.
Motivation Reading
Word by Word Basic Picture Dictionary
The Heinle Phonics & Intervention Kit - this includes an audio program, teacher's guide, 66 decodable readers for every sound, transparencies, and support for struggling readers.

Thanks for sharing this! I have been debating what to do with Sun Fen when I bring her home... I was thinking of hs till the end of school and seeing how it goes. I am just not sure yet what to do... my son Aiden goes to preschool through the school district for special services and things though. Decisions, decisions
I also thank you for sharing this info. We just found out this morning that we have PA for our second boy. We are so happy and excited. Lots of planning to do now!
