Day 18 - Starfish Foster Home - Sunday Snapshot

I am writing you because I have found an opportunity that is like no other and I’m eager to share it everyone! In the summers of 2009 and 2010, my family and I volunteered at The Starfish Foster Home in Xi'an, China. Starfish is a private foster home for children with special medical needs that is run by a wonderful and dedicated woman named Amanda DeLange. She has provided care and surgeries for many children. These life-saving surgeries have given these children the opportunity to be adopted by families both in China and all over the world. Just recently she has extended the opportunity for surgeries to some children living in a church-run orphanage. They spent the days after surgery recovering at the foster home. The most heartbreaking news was that they didn't want to go back to the orphanage. These children don't have the necessary paperwork to ever be adopted by foreigners. I have learned that the conditions in this orphanage are worse than the state run facilities. They have no running water toilets and the children only have rice to eat. They don't go to school. In China, you are no longer able to be adopted after the age of 14. The future is bleak for these children. Their immediate needs are food and education. Larger donations will allow for some structural improvements and medical care and smaller donations will provide food. Amanda has graciously offered to allocate the donations for specific projects. If you have ever wanted to donate to a worthy cause and see your donations at work, then this cause is for you. All donations are tax deductible. In this season of giving, would you please consider making a donation to help these children? If everyone I knew committed to just $5 a month, these kids could not only have their basic needs met but there would money left for some bigger improvements. If everyone I knew got just one more person to do the same, these children's lives would be forever changed. I hope you will consider even a small donation, it WILL make a difference. 100% of donations go directly to the children. If you would like to get updates, please reply to my email and I will email you any information I get. I plan to travel to China this summer and hope to be able to visit these desperate children I’m trying to help.
